Well, the Television Season is coming to an end...er...a screeching halt. Over the next few days, I'll post about some of the winners and losers in 2006. Last night, I caught the season finale of ER (which I didn't realize was still on the air) and the series finale of Will & Grace.
I have a theory about series finales...the writers no longer care. It's their last paycheck, and no one remembers the final episode. It's mostly regurgitated stuff from the series anyway, used via flashback. Take the last episode of Seinfeld, if you want. Anyway, it was a steaming pile of crap, much like the rest of the series. The only subplotline remotely entertaining was Leslie Jordan (as a gay millionaire)having a strong wind blow him off of his balcony. Eh, his crowning moment was in Ski Patrol...classic.
They seriously haven't cancelled ER yet? Three words about last night. Over...The...Top. Doctor turned soldier killed in Iraq. Scumbag former husband of doctor shows up with guards from prison for treatment, plans escape and kidnapping (of said doctor and their kid). Jovial character and a cop shot in the process. Another fan-favorite doctor gets injected with something bad. His pregnant wife has something bad happen during the shootout, passes out, bleeding, uh, you know, "down there."
I really wish those guys killed more doctors. At least then I would only be trying to follow one or two plots, and not 10. Where did all the good writers go? Thank God for Family Guy.

What a surprise. Didn't they have about 6 episodes of the bald dude's final final final appearance before he eventually died of brain cancer? The producers know death boosts ratings.
I almost forgot that 70s show. Hardly memorable. It gets lumped in with my theory about series finales. They didn't overdo the flashback element, for which I was grateful, but the only part that made be laugh was when Hyde quit smoking pot, started eating his greens, exercising, and basically sorting his life out. How did it work out? With his friends having an 'intervention' to get him back to the circle.
The only thing that makes ER worse than its writing is Linda Cardinelli (Lindsay from Freaks and Geeks) as part of the cast and her repulsive blond hair.
I was going to get around to tell you that I had you linked off my blog, but my internet situation is slightly frustrating. Also, I am going to win Death Pool this year.
May I add to the list of crap finales the West Wing? Also, that 70's Show went in the dumps a long time before the series finale. In fact the dumps aren't that far from where the show started.
Yeah, the West Wing finale would have been much better if Toby had come back with an AK47 and mowed down all the smug kiddies who thought they had won; or if it turned out that Charlie was really Bartlett's secret black son. Those writers have no imagination.
