Football, with a Dash of Politics

I really wasn't going to blog about politics today. Just because last night I watched the equivalent of "I Have a Dream" or "Ask not what your country can do for you" of my lifetime, I was still willing to just let it simmer a day or two. Then McCain tapped his Vice. My initial thoughts were--"wow, smart pick." He's more or less guaranteed he'll pick up some of the idiots from the last post (or secure them). She also lends him a hint of lost Maverick, and an air of change. Then I read this:

Larry Kudlow of CNBC’s “Kudlow & Co.” asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain ticket mate. Palin replied: “[A]s for that V.P. talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the V.P. does every day?"

So let me get this straight.....you're qualified for the position, but one month ago, you didn't know what the responsibilities were? I'm sure that quote won't make its way into any Obama/Biden ads (eye rolls). Someone already coined the term McCain/Palin, Trophy Wife/Trophy Vice '08.

More on this later. I have a lot to say of the revelations of the last few days. Football is less work right now. I intend to pick this year's playoff contenders and Super Bowl Champion. To be successful at such a feat, one must be very good at picking names of teams at random from a hat. First, your 2008 Division Winners:

AFC East
Drum roll please. Ladies and Gentlemen, J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS. Can you believe it? me neither.

AFC West
Denver Broncos

AFC South
Jacksonville Jaguars

AFC North
Pittsburgh Steelers

AFC WILD CARDS
San Diego Chargers
Indianapolis Colts

Let the insults ensue. Not only did the Jets win the east, the Pats missed the playoffs. Suck it, Tom Brady.

Now, on the the AFC Punching Bags...errr...the NFC.

NFC East
Dallas Cowboys (See, they aren't all shockers).

NFC West
Arizona Cardinals (Just most of them)

NFC South
New Orleans Saints

NFC North
Minnesota Vikings

NFC WILD CARDS
Carolina Panthers
Philadelphia Eagles

So who's in the big game, you ask? From the NFC, the Minnesota Vikings. From the AFC? Woof. Tough call. I'll go with the Broncos. And this year's super bowl winner (determined by the flip of a nearby nickel) is...............

The Denver Broncos. Congrats, Shanahan, Cutler, and the rest of the team.

OH! I almost forgot! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN MCCAIN! He's looking quite spry for 72 years young. Anyone know what the average male human life expectancy is off the top of their heads? What happens if he dies before the election?

One last edit. For anyone interested in reading a well-respected economist brutally rape and sodomize John McCain's economic position and promises, have a look at what Clive Cook had to say in his article today.

she might be a smarter choice than we think. I have to do more research.

I can't stand the way Obama tries to compare himself to King. King was more than Obama ever will be.

Ellie, I don't think he does that at all. The media tries to, but I don't see the arrogance that he's being labeled with.

I only made reference to it because it is what it is. This was arguably the 2nd most historic speech I will hear in my lifetime. The only one that may trump it is if he gets elected to the White House.

I think this election will be the most historic...either a black man will be president or we will have the first female vp.

I think the media is the worst on this one...you have to dig if you want the truth.

McCains ads border stupid. Obama's appearances border 'Godly'.. it has become a circus in my eyes.

But it is the most important election I think I will ever be apart of.

You never know, I still might vote Obama. I am undecided b/c I don't like McCain. He is representative of the Bush administration.

All I can say though is Thank God it's not Hillary.
Hopefully we can agree on that.

I will be honest. I fell asleep putting my son down last night and have not had the chance to hear all of it yet. I am downloading all 51 minutes of it on you tube now.
I hear parts of it were a bit angry. But you know what...maybe that is what we need now.

what do you think about his safety?

I am glad it's not Hillary, but not because I think she was a bad or unqualified candidate. I think she's a very smart woman with a tremendous amount of cajones. But believe it or not, her ego makes Barack's look like an 8 year old fat kid's. She has her interests at heart, not mine. I really believe that Barack want's to help the American public. He truly has been a public servant.

Sure, he might have bad ideas on how to go about doing that. But as long as he intends to help, we'll figure out the best way to do it when we get there.

I think he'll make america safer than Bush could ever dream. I should probably dedicate an entire post to that sometime. Russia just made America her "bitch" because we're stretched so thin in Iraq. All we could do is shake our finger and firmly say "NO! Bad Russia! Bad!"

Barack wants to end the war in Iraq and take it to Pakistan and Afganistan. That's important. He's also tapped Joe Biden, who has more national defense expertise than McCain. With out image restored in the world, we won't have to do all the fighting ourselves. I'll let you know when i post my full thoughts on the matter.

I think Biden was a smart choice, b/c that is where McCain hit Obama the hardest.

as far as Russia, you are right. Talk about a tradgedy.

On a lighter note:
ELLIE SAYS GO PACKERS!
GO GIANTS! SAYS ELLIE'S HUBBY

When I asked you about safety.. I meant...him.

I fear for his safety. Any smart person would.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie. I do think about it. That's why I get pissed off whenever McCain questions his patriotism. That guy HAS to love America, seeing as he is risking his life for it.

Thankfully, I'm pretty sure the secret service is better equipped than they were in the days of Reagan.

Don't feel too bad about the Giants and Packers missing my list this year. They'll be back in the mix next year. Might even be the NFC championship game again (speaking of which, did you make your husband sleep on the couch last year? that musta been an awkward night...).
