Palin "Out of Her League"

Ouch. This has got to sting a little. Kathleen Parker, a nationally syndicated columnist, staunch conservative, has this to say in the National Review, the most conservative of magazines:
Palin didn’t make a mess cracking the glass ceiling. She simply glided through it.

It was fun while it lasted.

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there.
I'm pretty sure she just called her an Empty Skirt. She closes the article with this:
McCain can’t repudiate his choice for running mate. He not only risks the wrath of the GOP’s unforgiving base, but he invites others to second-guess his executive decision-making ability. Barack Obama faces the same problem with Biden.

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Do it for your country.

Then you have every bit as much experience as one of our Vice Presidential nominees when it comes to foreign policy.

I'm trying to keep it balanced, so more television is on the way.

yet there are people around here in Texas and I have friends and family in Louisiana who give her a pass and say that palin is just learning.

They then turn around and critizise Obabma for being inexperienced.

No one could criticize a woman for putting her family first?...that is exactly what I hate about her..she doesn't put her family first.

I have been reemed one end to the next about how I have a double standard..Obama has kids too, why should he run...

Plain and simple, he is not their mother. I think that it's bullshit when they say parents are equal in thought, feeling and responsibility. My children are flesh from my flesh. It is awful when fathers abandon their children, but when mothers do it, I think the sin is twice as bad.

Palin puts her political career above the needs of her husband and her children.
She has a four month old DS baby and a 17 year old pregnant daughter that she has casually thrust into the spotlight.
This girl doesn't need hundreds of reporters following her or digging into her past and splashing her young face across tabloids.
This young man that go her pregnant doesn't need to be in the spotlight either.

Palin should have declined.

She doesn't seem like a woman to me. Womanhood embodies so much more than the face of Palin.

I don't think that she is successful at all, I think that in the area it matters most, she has failed quite brilliantly.

The fact that she is a mother doesn't really play in my book, Ellie. At least not under the criteria you portray. I don't think she should run (only in very small part) because she has not two, not three, but FIVE children. One of which she squeezed out a couple months ago. Another of which is about to make her the rare and elusive "GILF," of which she'll likely bear a significant amount of responsibility for that child as well.

Are there parental circumstances that I feel should prevent Obama from running? Sure! If his daughter was a teenager, and she got pregnant, I'd advise against it. If his daughter was found to have a serious or potentially life-threatening illness? I'd say absolutely drop out.

I take offense to the idea that you do not think I am every bit equal to my wife in thought, feeling, and responsibility. In other news, my kids are also "flesh from my flesh."

Aside from all that, I think we're in complete agreement. I think Palin should have turned down the job the second it was offered. In her shoes, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. It's an easy "no, thank you very much though."

Furthermore, and perhaps most tragic (unless McCain wins), is that she has to see it through, or risk setting women back in politics by decades. If she bows out now, even for the good of her family, she'll be viewed as weak. It will cause the public to question the validity of every female candidate from now until the next 100 years.

I may have mispoke a bit saying that mothers and fathers aren't equal Ben. My point was that I think the sin is greater when a mother abandons her child.

It's from my personal stand point. It's hard to explain without saying a father is less connected, when I don't mean that.

Birthing my children opened my eyes more than they have ever been opened. Carrying them for so long and going through the types of pregnancy that I did. Feeling their life inside mine. It should be a crime if I were to ever abandon my children.

Mothers and fathers are different. I think for the most part, they play a different role. Not saying that fathers are less important, I just think they have a different role.

but to give up or abandon your child that you carried for 9 months, especially one struggling to survive, one struggling to give life, and 3 others struggling to cope...she is a horrible mother.

That should be a qualification of the president or vice. Whether or not you are a good parent. I think Obama is a good parent. He admitted his mistake of putting his girls on that entertainment show and vowed never to do it again. But he is their father, and as such has a different role. I think it's okay for him to go for his political career.

Being hungry is one thing, but abandoning your morals is another.

If McCain dies, how is she going to run a country with 5 children who desparately need their mother?

I will tell you how... she will just neglect her kids as she has already proven she knows how to do.
